Job Title: Facilities/Janitorial Lead (Full Time)

Reports to: Building and Grounds Director

Status:Full-time /Hourly (40 hours per week)/Eligible for benefits package

Schedule: Available for mid-day and closing shifts, with a minimum of one closing shift per week and availability to work at least one weekend per month

Compensation: Starting at $14.89 per hour & Free Household YMCA Membership

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Facilities Lead will be responsible for overseeing the cleanliness and general appearance of the YMCA facility and grounds to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for everyone using our facility. This person will also be responsible for communicating expectations and determining responsibilities among the evening and weekend shift maintenance staff, along with communicating with the Building & Grounds Director and Facilities Coordinator.

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform any function necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the facility in the spirit of teamwork.
  • Take the initiative for making sure things are clean in the building. After completing the standard cleaning checklist, identify any additional areas inside and outside the building that may need special attention to maintain a pristine appearance (clean vents, lockers, high traffic areas, etc.).
  • Represent the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in a professional manner, by being present and embracing the importance of providing a positive experience to all YMCA staff, members and guests.
  • Work alongside maintenance staff to complete assigned duties and projects while providing leadership and feedback as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with all YMCA staff.
  • Act as a liaison between facilities staff and the Building & Grounds Director and Facilities Coordinator.
  • Supervise maintenance staff on shift to ensure necessary tasks are completed, answer questions and assist with problem resolution.
  • Train new staff on proper cleaning/maintenance procedures.
  • Complete daily walk-through inspections of all areas (indoor and outdoor) to ensure cleanliness, safety and equipment operation meet high standards.
  • Identify areas of facility and grounds needs and follow through to find the tools/supplies needed to take care of or work with crew to resolve.
  • Provide support with maintaining various building inventories, and monitoring various building systems (aquatics, HVAC, security, etc.).
  • Assist the staff in completing general maintenance/repairs as needed to maintain and close the building daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
  • Monitor outdoor conditions and provide assistance with snow removal, salting, lot cleanup, landscaping & lawncare, etc. during shift as needed.
  • Provide special attention to the cleanliness of 24/7 fitness area and the YMCA park upkeep.
  • Assist with setup and take down for rentals and special events.
  • Assist with member needs related to facilities including lockers, lost and found, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to perform hands-on and physical work.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; detailed oriented.
  • Prior experience and/or training in maintenance/facilities/janitorial work required.
  • Strong supervisory/leadership skills preferred.
  • Ability to engage and interact with co-workers, members, and guests from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part as a team.

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.
