Job Title: Manager on Duty 

Reports to: Membership & Marketing Director 

Compensation: $15.27 per hour 

Schedule: Weekends

POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Manager on Duty, under supervision of the Membership & Marketing Director, will be responsible for communication and coordination of all department leads during opening/closing and weekend shifts. This position is responsible for effectively communicating YMCA rules and policies to members and guests of all ages in order to provide a safe and pleasant experience for everyone using our facility.  

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Supports all aspects of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in the spirit of teamwork 
  • Represent the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in a professional manner, being visible and available to all members and guests  
  • Completes Hourly Building Checks and walkthroughs of childcare, locker rooms, 24/7, aquatics, upstairs, park etc. 
  • Assists front desk as needed  
  • Takes the lead on all member and facility incidents with focus on safety and customer service  
  • Document any incidents, codes called, etc. and notifies appropriate Y Senior Leadership Staff 
  • Escorts any members/guests who are asked to leave the facility and document appropriately, notifying Membership Director/CEO 
  • Responsible for leading and connecting the team who opens and closes the facility as well as monitoring security procedures and facility operations during the assigned shift: 
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among all Department Leads (Aquatics, Member Service, Maintenance, Sports & Wellness, etc.) to ensure everyone is working together to provide a great member experience 
  • Monitors and ensures “All Hands on Deck” guidelines are being followed throughout the facility 
  • Responsible for making all closing announcements (15 minutes and 5 minutes prior to closing) 
  • Knows & follows opening and closing protocols 
  • Takes the lead in closing the park in coordination with Facilities Lead Staff 
  • Key holder who opens and closes facility entrances (front doors, south entrance, 24/7) 
  • Serves as a responder to all security and fire alarms, emergency codes called, and any facility operation incidents. 
  • Provide coverage/walk-throughs of the entire facility (more focus on upstairs when a Court Supervisor/Sports Lead is not present) 
  • Responsible for checking in and monitoring experience for weekend party rentals 
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with all YMCA rules and policies including safety, cleanliness standards, child abuse prevention, and emergencies procedures 
  • Model the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and relationship-building skills in all interactions representing the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in a professional manner. 
  • Assist in taking responsibility with set up and take down of any equipment needed for classes, sports or events.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • At least 18 years of age  
  • Must be proficient in Daxko system 
  • Prior experience supervising or coaching preferred 
  • Ability to engage with diverse populations
  • Must be confident and comfortable professionally addressing members and guests regarding YMCA rules and policies in order to maintain a safe and organized environment in the gym area, courts, indoor track, and fitness facility during peak hours of operation 
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certified or able to obtain within 30 days of hire  
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, guests, supervisors, and all Y employees. 
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible at all times.

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.

There is a reduced joining fee. $25 for Youth/Teen, $25 for Adult, and $50 for Household memberships.
