We are offering a new form of training: Muscle Recovery!
Muscle Recovery sessions will consist of body tempering, KT taping, Guasha and/or cupping. Participants can choose two during their 30-minute session.
Muscle Recovery is a very important aspect of a training program, building strength and muscle. Recovery after exercise will also assist in preventing future injury and muscle spasms. This type of session will consist of your choice of one or a combination of the recovery methods listed.
The session will be completed by our recovery specialist, Justin Grandy.

Our Member / Participant Code of Conduct Policy lists examples of prohibited actions. Such actions include, but are not limited to the following:
In order to be able to carry out these policies, we ask that members and participants identify themselves to staff when asked. Adherence to the YMCA Code of Conduct Policy is essential. Failure to follow this code of conduct will result in disciplinary actions, which may include immediate eviction from the premises, loss of privileges, suspension or expulsion. The YMCA may contact police or other authorities for assistance or to take appropriate legal action. The CEO, or other authorized representative in his/her discretion, will determine whether a violation of the YMCA Member/Participant Code of Conduct has occurred.
Members and participants are encouraged to take responsibility for their personal comfort and safety by asking any person whose behavior threatens their comfort or unreasonably interferes with their enjoyment of the YMCA to refrain from such behavior. Anyone who feels uncomfortable in confronting a person directly is encouraged to report issues or concerns to the attention of the YMCA Staff, who are always ready to be of assistance. Members and participants are also asked to bring to the attention of the CEO any issues or concerns they have which apply to the staff of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. Every effort will be made to ensure that reports are investigated and resolved promptly and effectively.
Body Tempering involves rolling various parts of our bodies with metal cylinders. The cylinder’s weight helps to relieve tightness of the muscles by breaking up trigger points and muscle adhesions. It is also reported to help rid our bodies of toxins, specifically from our fascia, veins and nerves. Body Tempering also helps prevent injuries such as hernias, tears, tweaks, muscle ruptures, and protect against trauma. It also helps promote and increase individual performance by allowing our bodies to work more effectively by ironing out muscle adhesions.
KT Taping is used to provide extra support for muscles and joints without restricting range of motion. It helps aid with muscle recovery, prevents cramping/muscle spasms, and enhances muscle development. Our personal trainer can apply the tape in your trouble area (it can be applied almost anywhere on your body!) and it will stay on for about 3 days.
Guasha (Muscle Scraping) is a practice in which a tool is used to scrape client’s skin in order to produce light petechiae. Practitioners believe that Guasha releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff, or injured muscle areas to stimulate new blood flow to the areas promoting cell repair, generation, healing and recovery.
Suction from cupping draws fluid into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels under the skin. Your body treats the cupping area like an injury. It sends more blood to the area to stimulate the natural healing process. Some people theorize that cupping clears the pores and releases toxins.
Small group personal training allows specific needs to be meant with a personal trainer while working out with your friends and having accountability. This consists of, but is not limited to weight loss, functional training, strength training, form training, recovery training and endurance training. It gives the opportunity to be with friends in a custom structured session with our certified personal trainers.
