Update from the CEO

March 2026

Hello Y Members,

As we transition from winter into the warmer seasons, it’s a natural time to reflect on growth, renewal, and taking action. I’m excited to share three new ways you’ll be able to see and celebrate the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA’s mission in action throughout our community.

Donor Banner Program

I am very excited to introduce our new Dow Bay Area Family YMCA Donor Banner Program, a meaningful way to recognize the individuals and businesses who help make everything possible.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Y continues to be a place where people of all ages can grow stronger in spirit, mind, and body. Our new banners, proudly displayed in our YMCA facility, recognize donors who have invested in our community and the people we serve. These banners serve as a visible reminder that the Y is truly a community effort. Every program we offer, every family we support, and every life we impact is made possible through the generosity of those who believe in our mission.

The first banners have recently been installed, and we encourage members to take a moment to look up and recognize the businesses, families, and individuals who help support the Y. If you are interested in learning more about the Donor Banner Program or other ways to support the Y, please feel free to reach me directly.

111 Madison Avenue TIME CAPSULE

As many of you may know, the former Bay Area Family YMCA building at 111 Madison Avenue was recently demolished. During the process, a time capsule dating back to 1953 was discovered within the building’s cornerstone. We are honored to now be the caretakers of these items, which will soon be given a special place in our current facility for the next 27 years—until 2053—in keeping with the wishes of those who originally placed them.

In celebration of these meaningful pieces of YMCA history, and as we mark 15 years in our current home at 225 Washington Avenue this December, we are also planning to create a new time capsule that reflects the members and leadership of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. This new capsule will preserve memories, artifacts, and stories from today, capturing a snapshot of our YMCA facility and community—including you—for the next 100 years. More details about this special project will be shared soon.

Also coming soon..

Also coming soon, in addition to our annual impact report, our upcoming “Mission Forward” newsletter will allow you to see on a more frequent basis all the ways that make the Y the place to be and support. Articles will feature upcoming community events and programs, donor highlights, volunteer opportunities, health tips, YMCA member/program participants and staff impact stories, and so much more!

If you are interested in learning more about the Donor Banner Program or other ways to support the Y, please feel free to reach me directly.

*Reminder: We will be closed on Sunday, April 5, in observance of Easter. 24/7 access will remain available during this time.

Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.

There is a reduced joining fee. $25 for Youth/Teen, $25 for Adult, and $50 for Household memberships.
