Get in the game! The YMCA Basketball Academy (YBA) is back and better than ever! YBA is an instructional program designed for youngsters new to the sport of basketball as well as those who want to brush up on the rules, tactics, and skills, improve their game and most importantly, HAVE FUN!
Returning participants can use their orange/white jersey that was used in prior seasons. If a new jersey is needed, they can be purchased for an additional $10. All new jerseys that are purchased this season will be given to coaches and distributed by them.
Volunteer Coaches Wanted
Contact Nathan Goddard at email@example.com if you are interested in helping out the community and YBA program by volunteering. Anyone interested in coaching can apply by filling out a coaching application at the front desk at the YMCA. Applicants must also pass a background check as well as a youth sports concussion training. We will be having a coaches meeting for all coaches that will be involved with our YBA program on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:00 PM.
The YMCA is seeking individuals that are interested in officiating YBA games. Must be motivated, dependable, mature, responsible and knowledgeable about basketball. High school and college students welcome. For additional information contact Nate Goddard.

K – 6th Grade: Teams are formed based on the school/location of the player. Each team is guaranteed at least one, one-hour practice per week. At the K/1st grade level, we combine the boys and girls; and from 2nd grade through 6th grade, we separate the boys and girls into separate teams. We separate each grade into its own division (unless we need to combine a couple grades due to registration numbers). Games will be played on Saturdays beginning November 10th at either the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA or Handy Middle School. Practices will begin the week of October 29th
Competitive Divisions for 5th/6th Grades:
Competitive division games will be played more like a middle school regulation game. Players in competitive divisions should have 2-3 years of experience and an expanding knowledge of basketball. Boys and girls will be separated in this division, but 5th and 6th graders will be combined into one division. In this division, coaches put together what players they would like on their team instead of us placing kids on a team. When registering a player, you will put down your coach’s name so we can group players into the proper teams. Individual players that do not have a coach should not sign up in the competitive division.

Sessions will be 45 minutes long, and participants will attend one session each week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Each day is limited to 35 participants.
