Once upon a time 35 years ago, I was a 5-year-old little sister sitting on her big brother’s shoulders counting while he did pushups for hockey. I was hooked. At 14 he took me to my first gym and taught me how to lift weights.
Fast forward to when I was 24 and raising my hand to join The U.S. Army. From there I served 8 years and was in charge of my various units physical training regiments. I would lead the company in morning PT, take care of injured soldiers by creating plans for rehabilitation, help soldiers lose weight and get strong for deployments, and help our amputees get back into fitness ready to take charge.
For a while I was looking at physical therapy and even studied at U of M Flint with their graduate program until my heartstrings and people brought me back into training. As much as I love rehabilitating people after an injury or condition, I would much rather focus on helping people get stronger to avoid surgery altogether. I firmly believe that exercise is medicine and want to help those achieve what I have seen it do. From weight loss goals to avoiding surgical intervention by controlling diabetes, even cancer survival rates increase per muscle mass.
I am excited to continue learning and seeing what exercise and fitness can do, and I want to help you see it too!
