Reports to: Sports & Wellness Director

Status:  Part-time (20-25 hours per week)

Compensation: $13/hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Sports Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Sport & Wellness Director in creating the best possible experience for participants in sports leagues, camps and clinics.

 

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports all aspects of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in the spirit of teamwork
  • Assist the Sports & Wellness Director in the organization, promotion, and coordination of sports leagues, practices, camps, and clinics
  • Coordinate instructors for summer athletic camps and act as an instructor as much as possible
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics
  • Supports the Y Marketing Plan in making sure our community is aware of all current and new programs
  • Coach youth sports teams or officiate as needed
  • Able to relate to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Supports the Sports & Wellness Director in scheduling for Sports staff, Recess Program Staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Oversee scheduled games and assist with any operational needs
  • Maintain frequent communication with staff, parents, volunteers, coaches, and referees
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to all Y members, guests, community partners, and donors
  • Leads by example with a professional appearance and attitude at all times
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  • Ensures equipment is available and in good condition for games and practices; notifies Sports & Wellness Director of any sports equipment needs
  • Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events
  • Promote YMCA policies and procedures to employees, volunteers, members, and prospective members
  • Promote the mission and core values of the YMCA on a daily basis
  • Help to maintain a safe, clean, and organized facility
  • Be willing and able to cover for the Sports & Wellness Director when (s)he is out of the office
  • Compiles program statistics, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings
  • Some early morning, evening, and weekend hours and local travel will be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post High School Education in related field or equivalent experience strongly preferred
  • Background in multiple sports preferred
  • Previous YMCA experience preferred
  • Highly organized person with superb planning and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and energetic with the ability to take initiative
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Experience creating, implementing and evaluating sports programs preferred
  • Successful completion of background check required
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required
