Job Title: Fall Health and Wellness Intern

Reports to: Assistant Director – Health & Wellness

Seasonal Position: August 2022 – December 2022

Compensation: Work Experience (unpaid), Free Y Membership during internship

Status: Part-Time (10-15 hours per week


The Y is seeking a fun, creative, enthusiastic and outgoing individual to provide health and wellness fitness support for the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA.  This internship provides dynamic guidance and leadership in the area of fitness promotional programming. The internship is an opportunity to gain experience working as an integral member of the Health and Wellness department. The Health and Wellness Intern will work closely with the Sports & Wellness Director, and interact with all staff members.


  • Creating and developing programs
  • Administering basic fitness assessments
  • Coordinate and maintain “Why Wait Get Fit” program
  • Design and implement quarterly fitness challenges for members ( i.e. Holiday Cross Challenge, March Madness)
  • Giving Y gym orientations
  • Working with health seekers as well as competitive athletes
  • Administering basic fitness assessments
  • Opportunities are available to work with youth, adults, and seniors
  • Evaluate the quality of exercise programs and group fitness classes through the use of an evaluation form
  • Personal training (depending on experience and certifications)
  • Instruct group exercise classes


  • Ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team member
  • Additional opportunities available based on qualifications
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications or the ability to obtain them


The Health and Wellness Intern will work on real projects and learn to work cooperatively in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment, and also receive a free Adult Membership to the Y.
