Job: Summer Facilities Management and Safety Intern

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Y is seeking an enthusiastic, self-starting individual to provide administrative, training, and safety compliance support for the Maintenance Department at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Facilities Management and Safety Intern will work closely with the Facilities Maintenance Director and interact with all staff members.

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop a thorough training manual for new facilities and maintenance team members
  • Review and update safety policies and procedures
  • Survey the YMCA facility to find any items posing a health or safety hazard
  • Review and update Emergency Action Plan for facility
  • Help to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Provide general administration and organization for the department
  • Complete other facility and maintenance projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills with experience using many different computer programs
  • Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to complete jobs with a sense of urgency while being attentive to customer needs
  • Students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or other related fields preferred
  • Availability to work 10-20 hours per week in order to complete assigned projects
