Job Title: Before & After School Program Coordinator

Reports to: Youth & Family Programs Director

Pay range: $13 per hour, Free Household YMCA Membership, YMCA Program Discounts

Status: Part-Time (25-29 hours per week)


The After School Coordinator supports the work of the Y in strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position supervises and provides leadership for the staff and children in the day-to-day operations of the YMCA healthy out of school time/after school program in order to provide a safe environment for the children to play, learn, grow and interact positively.


  • Responsible for ensuring that children are signed in children upon arrival and signed out appropriately each day at pick up for each After School Program Site
  • Coordinate program planning incorporating CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) and HEPA (Healthy Eating & Physical Activity) standards
  • Provide leadership for Before & After School Program staff including hiring, mentoring, preparing weekly schedules, and approving labor
  • Ensure that appropriate staff training and documentation is completed and retained as required for State of MI licensing
  • Complete grant reporting as needed and ensure that commitments are met for grants awarded (MDE, HOST, United Way, etc.)
  • Build/maintain positive relationships with children and families served, staff, volunteers, and partner organizations in the community (i.e. local school districts)
  • Serve as a representative and role model for the YMCA maintaining a professional demeanor at all times
  • Produce monthly newsletter for parents
  • Make sure that parents fill out the proper forms including: medical history, permission slips and medical disbursement forms
  • Familiarize parents and students with Before & After School Program policies and procedures
  • Discipline children by using appropriate methods as defined by YMCA policies and procedures. If inappropriate behavior persists, inform the Director and discuss with parents
  • Be familiar with mandated reporter procedures for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Respond to, document and report any accidents or incidents to the Youth & Family Director, Early Childhood Director, and CEO
  • Attend and participate in meetings and trainings with other staff and administration
  • Assist Youth & Family Director with creating annual budget and monitoring spending accordingly
  • Collaborate with Marketing team in creating and distributing informational and promotional materials for before and after school program outreach/awareness and special events


  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability and desire to work with school age children
  • Must be available to work Monday–Friday from 1:30 to 6:00pm
  • CPR/First Aid certified
  • Previous experience working with youth and planning activities required
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and basic computer skills
  • Ability to complete CATCH and HEPA required trainings
