About the Dennis Wirgowski Memorial Free Football Camp for Kids
Dennis Wirgowski had deep roots in Bay City and spent his entire life in the Bay City area. Dennis was an outstanding athlete in many sports but excelled at the sport that he loved the most—Football. Dennis was named a Parade Magazine High School All-American football player in 1965 and was selected to be the captain of this prestigious group.
Dennis led his Bay City Central high school team to a Class A State Championship in 1965 with a 9-0 record. As a result, he received scholarship offers from several of the top universities in the country to play football before deciding to take his talents to Purdue University. He went on to play 3 seasons on a Purdue squad that would finish 8-2 for each of his three seasons. Dennis was drafted in the 9th round of the 1970 NFL draft and went on to have a 5 year career in the NFL. He then returned back to his native Bay City where he lived until his passing in early 2014.
The Dennis Wirgowski Memorial Football Camp for Kids was created for Beth Wirgowski to give back to the community that Dennis loved in his name. The Dennis Wirgowski Memorial Football Camp for Kids aims to teach young football players valuable skills to be used on and off the football field, with a focus on the mental well-being of today’s young athletes.
