Job Title: Recess Program Staff (off-site)

Reports to: Youth & Family Director

Status: Part Time (10-12 hours per week)

Hourly rate: $12.00 per hour

Schedule: September 2024 – June 2025

**Shifts are available Monday-Friday 10:50am-1:15pm**

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Recess Program Staff will attend the recess program off-site at either Washington Elementary School, McAlear Sawden Elementary School, Hampton Elementary or MacGregor Elementary School to interact with the students and engage with them while providing supervision and organized activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend recess programs at local elementary school to engage and interact with students acting as a role model.
  • Provide leadership for students while facilitating organized activities and games during recess.
  • Represent the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA in a professional manner promoting the Y’s mission and core values.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Complete any other duties in the spirit of teamwork as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred
  • Knowledge/experience with a variety of sports and physical fitness activities preferred
  • Ability and desire to work with school age children
  • Previous experience working with youth and planning activities required
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Flexibility, with the ability to adapt to quickly changing circumstances
  • Ability to foresee problems and redirect children before an incident occurs
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Background check required

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.
