Job Title: Lead Teacher Infant Room (Ages 0 – 18 months)

Primary Work Location: YMCA Childcare Center @ First Presbyterian Church, 805 Center Ave, Bay City

*May also be needed to occasionally work at Dow Bay Area Family YMCA Childcare Center location at 225 Washington Ave, Bay City 48708

Reports to: Director of Early Childhood

Status: Full-time /Hourly (40 hours per week)/Eligible for full time employee benefits package/FREE YMCA Household Membership

Compensation: Starting at $14.70 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the daily program of activities that are developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of infants (birth through 18 months of age).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Treat all children with love, respect, patience, and dignity

Plan daily activities to impact the unique needs of children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development following and State licensing criteria for infant/toddler age programs and National YMCA Program Guidelines

Provide daily open communication with parents and opportunities for parents to be actively involved in all phases of the program

Provide accurate documentation of children’s personal files, attendance, emergency information, and other reporting criteria necessary for proper programming and licensing guidelines

Responsible for the appearance of the classroom (i.e. bulletin boards, care of equipment and materials, overall cleanliness, and organization) and oversees and shares in classroom housekeeping and cleaning duties

Attend a minimum of 16-24 clock hours of staff development conferences, workshops, or seminars on early childhood education and participate in monthly staff meetings

In collaboration with the program director, deal with special situations which may require outside agency involvement, parental support situations, etc., consulting with Dow Bay Area Family YMCA CEO, as needed

Discipline children as needed by using appropriate methods defined by YMCA policies and procedures

Be familiar with responsibility and procedures of reporting suspected child abuse

Respond to, document and report any accidents or incidents to the Childcare Director

Maintain professional attitude and practices when working with children, parents, community members and other staff, serving as a representative and role model for the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA

Lead, coach and mentor staff in the classroom, model behaviors and provide feedback

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, and able to relate well to children

Background in Early Childhood Education and Child Development Associate Credential with a minimum of 480 hours of experience required; Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or child development preferred

Minimum age requirement of 19, per licensing guidelines

Comprehensive fingerprinting and TB Test required per State Licensing

Must be Certified in First Aid and Pediatric, Child, and Adult CPR (or able to obtain within 90 days of hire)

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

Excellent communication and organizational skills; general computer knowledge

Must be an energetic, highly motivated, team player committed to a high-quality program, and be willing and able to work closely with other caregivers in accordance with program goals and objectives

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.
