Job Title: Winter Health and Wellness Intern  

Reports to: Assistant Director – Sports & Wellness 

Seasonal Position: January 2024 – May 2024 

Compensation: Work Experience (unpaid), Free Y Membership during internship 

Status: Part-Time (10-15 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Y is seeking a fun, creative, enthusiastic and outgoing individual to provide health and wellness fitness support for the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA.  This internship provides dynamic guidance and leadership in the area of fitness promotional programming. The internship is an opportunity to gain experience working as an integral member of the Health and Wellness department. The Health and Wellness Intern will work closely with the Sports & Wellness Director, and interact with all staff members. 

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Create and develop programs 
  • Assist with quarterly fitness challenges for members  
  • Give YMCA fitness floor orientations 
  • Work with health seekers as well as competitive athletes 
  • Administer basic fitness assessments 
  • Opportunities are available to work with youth, adults, and seniors 
  • Evaluate the quality of exercise programs and group fitness classes through the use of an evaluation form 
  • Observe and Conduct Personal training sessions (depending on experience and certifications) 
  • Opportunity to instruct group exercise classes 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team member 
  • Additional opportunities available based on qualifications 
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications or the ability to obtain them

Financial AsSistance Programs

Individuals will not be turned away from participating in programs, activities, and/or membership due to their inability to pay. The Y maintains a generous financial assistance program for youth, adults, and families who demonstrate financial need. Funding for this program is provided by fundraising events at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and community-wide donors.
