Job Title: Social Media Intern
Reports to: Marketing & Membership Director
Seasonal Position: January 2023 – May 2023
Compensation: Work Experience (unpaid), Free Y Membership during internship
Status: 10-15 hours

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Y is seeking a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and outgoing individual to provide social media and marketing support for the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Social Media Intern will work closely with the Membership & Marketing Director and Assistant Director-Marketing & Design and interact with all staff members.
JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create and manage content for the company’s social media profiles (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, YouTube, etc.)
- Identify web trends and find new ways to engage our audience with new social media platforms
- Assists with the production of a wide range of marketing communications
- Assists with social media initiatives and updates sites as directed
- Takes photographs
- Provides support and input for the planning and execution of grass roots marketing initiatives throughout the region supporting new and current initiatives
- May represent the YMCA at special events
- Completes other design and marketing projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications or business administration preferred
- Understanding of various social media platforms
- Be proactive and generate ideas on how to improve current processes to generate and engage followers
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Basic understanding of working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), Microsoft Office, social media platforms and basic camera skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Resourcefulness, ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and as a team member
- Availability to work 10-15 hours per week in order to complete assigned projects
