The Pirates Festival Returns to the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA July 7-10

June 24, 2016

Starting on July 7, the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA will kick off the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Strong Community Movement with the biggest Pirates Festival to date. Formerly known as Pirates on the Run, the Pirates Festival still includes the popular 8k run, 5k run and walk and three Little Matey races for kids. Also returning for this year’s Pirates Festival will be internationally renowned reggae band The Ark Band as well as musical performances by the Bay City Steelers Steel Drum band and local duo Shake. The 2016 Pirates Festival is sponsored by McLaren Bay Region, Chemical Bank, Copus Orthodontics, MCI Insurance, F.P. Horak. Pepsi and Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation, and will take place outside of the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA at 225 Washington Avenue in Downtown Bay City.

This year’s Pirates Festival will feature a treasure trove of activities including a Slide-In Movie, Fire in the Hole Cornhole Tournament, Pirates Night Out, Buccaneer Breakfast, Captain’s Chicken Dinner, Jolly Roger’s Euchre Tournament, the new Pie the Pirate fundraiser, a Bake Walk, a sand sculpture competition featuring 12 professional sand sculpting teams, a new amateur sand sculpting competition, a two-day youth sand sculpting workshop, a rum and beer tent, live music featuring The Ark Band, authentic Pirate games, activities and contests, post-race live entertainment featuring a return performance from The Ark Band, and much more.

All proceeds from the Pirates Festival support the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA’s Strong Community Movement, which is one of the biggest ways the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA gives back to our community. The Dow Bay Area Family YMCA’s Strong Community Movement has given over $700,000 back to our community since 2011, and in the last year it made it possible for over 1,400 people in our community to become Y members, enroll in camps, join youth sports leagues, and have a safe place to learn and build confidence through child care and after-school programs. Additionally, 897 kids have received scholarships for programs at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA.

The Pirates Festival is the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA’s biggest fundraiser of the year for the Strong Community Movement, and it will allow us to continue to make a positive and lasting impact in our community.
