At the Y, one of our most important goals has always been to enrich the lives of kids in our community. But when some are left out, it leaves us all a bit poorer.
That’s because giving kids a safe and nurturing place to go benefits everyone. By introducing them to experiences that will help them grow into responsible, successful adults, we make the community we love a better place to live. One child at a time. One family at a time.
Y programs teach young people important values such as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Through a variety of fun and rewarding activities, they also develop valuable skills while they gain confidence and self-esteem. You simply can’t put a price on strengthening and enriching the character of a child.
2008 “STRONG KIDS” CAMPAIGN
The Y "Strong Kids" Annual Giving Campaign provides an opportunity for Y members, program participants, and other supporters to support the work of the Bay Area Family Y in our area by providing:
- Funding for our Y's Financial Assistance Program. This program insures that Y programs and activities are available to all youth, adults, and families, regardless of their ability to pay.
- Funding to support programs and activities that are at the very heart of the mission of the Y in Bay County by:
· Reducing membership fees for senior citizens.
· Underwriting the costs of youth programs that do not produce revenue to cover the direct costs of the program.
· Helping to fund the expansion and development of new programs and activities for youth, adults, and families including a Youth Obesity Prevention Program, new Youth Sports Programs and Summer Camp Programs.
TOGETHER . . . WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF THE Y!
The Y Endowment Fund is an investment fund supervised and monitored by the Y’s Board of Directors. The principal of the fund, invested by the Board, remains in tact, with only the income being returned to the Y operating fund to be used to support the general services of the Y throughout its service area.
The Y Endowment Fund consists of two investment funds: a pool income under the management of the Bay Area Community Foundation and a general Endowment Investment Fund under the management of the Citizen’s Bank Trust Department. The Fund increases as contributions, large and small, are received. Accurate records are maintained on each individual named fund to assure proper accounting of both principal and income.
The Bay Area Family Y is an IRS approved public charity; therefore, all contributions to increase the Endowment Fund or establish a “Named Fund” is tax deductible. Donors receive a charitable tax deduction for the year in which the gift is made, even though distribution from the fund may take place in future years. If the gift consists of appreciated securities, no capital gains taxes are payable. Prospective donors should consult with their tax advisor concerning all contributions.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE Y ENDOWMENT FUND
Individuals may contribute to The Endowment Fund in a variety of ways:
|
Outright Gifts
|
Contributions of cash, land, or securities to the YMCA Endowment Fund.
|
|
Insurance
|
By naming the Y as owner, primary or contingent beneficiary of a new or existing insurance policy
|
|
Will Bequest
|
Designating the Y for a percentage of the donor's estate or for a specified amount. The amount need not be revealed; However, if the donor agrees, the information will be helpful in the long range planning of the Y
|
|
Charitable Trust
|
Gifts with life income retained by the donor; charitable remainder unitrust, annuity trust, pooled income fund. Other trusts: charitable lead trust, life estate, revocable living trust.
|
DESIGNATION OF BEQUESTS AND GIFTS
Bequests and gifts may be made to the Y for any restricted purpose or for the general purposes of the Y without restrictions.
Generally, it will be the practice of the Y to place undesignated gifts and bequests in the general Endowment Fund where only the income, not the principal, will be used for current operations.
NAMED FUNDS
An individual donor or the family of an individual may establish a permanent Named Fund bearing the honored individual’s name. The revenue earned by the named fund may be specified for a specific purpose – program, facility, or project – consistent with the purpose of the Y. Gifts to these funds continue to perpetuate the memory of the individual, as well as help to secure the future of the Bay Area Family Y.
An individual donor or, in the event the Y receives donations of $1000 or more in honor of an individual, the individual's family, may establish a permanent Named Fund bearing the honored individual's name. The donor or family may specify the use of the interest to a designated purpose, program, or project consistent with the purposes of the Y. The Board and staff of the Y will meticulously observe the wishes of the donor.

MEMORIAL/IN HONOR GIFT
A gift to the Y will be a meaningful tribute in memory or in honor of a loved one, relative, friend, colleague or organization. A gift can be made to honor a friend or family member on a birthday, graduation, anniversary, retirement, or other event and a memorial gift is an especially thoughtful and meaningful way to honor the memory of a loved one. In making such a gift, you can take comfort in knowing that it will be used to support the work of the Y.
The Y will send a formal acknowledgement of your gift to the person or family in whose honor your tribute is made. A separate receipt will be sent to you for tax.
